Two Years of the Period Positive Workplace: Insights from Employees and Managers

On May 28, 2023, the Period Positive Workplace (PPW) initiative launched in celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day. The motivation to launch the PPW came from the simple idea to engage the private sector in the global menstrual equity movement.

To become a certified Period Positive Workplace, organizations must meet three requirements:

  • Provide free period products in or near all bathrooms used by employees who menstruate
  • Ensure that wash facilities comply with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) standards
  • Inform employees that period products are and will continue to be provided

Since the launch, Days for Girls (DfG) has been proud to lead the PPW steering committee in the certification of 277 Period Positive Workplaces across 45 countries, impacting over 290,000 employees.

Now, DfG is pleased to announce the publication of the 2025 Period Positive Workplace Impact Report. This report includes insights from employees and managers at Period Positive Workplaces.

Key Findings from PPW Employees

    • More than 50% of employees say the PPW positively impacted their work productivity and attendance.
    • 5x more employees say managing menstruation is easy in a Period Positive Workplace.
    • 93% of employees say the initiative gave them peace of mind regarding unexpected periods.

“Our workplace culture has inspired me to talk about menstruation more confidently in my personal life as well. Whether it’s with family or friends, I now advocate for menstrual health without hesitation. The awareness we spread here is not just impacting us at work but is also encouraging positive change in our communities,” wrote one Period Positive Workplace employee.

Key Findings from PPW Managers

  • More than 60% of managers say the PPW contributed to the normalization of menstruation, improved health awareness, and improved workplace culture.
  • 76% of managers agreed that the PPW initiated new conversations about menstruation at their organization.
  • 90% of Period Positive Workplaces do more menstrual health programming than the certification requires, including providing menstrual product choices, sharing educational resources, or offering menstrual pain management options.

“We believe this initiative goes beyond just providing products. It’s about creating systemic change in workplace culture, ensuring dignity and equity for all,” wrote one Period Positive Workplace manager.

This year’s survey findings show how becoming a Period Positive Workplace leads to healthier workplace cultures, improved menstruation management for employees, and overall more supportive menstrual health environments as PPWs take steps beyond their initial certification to end the stigma associated with menstruation.
