The Period Positive Workplace Testimonial Series: OVO

In May 2023, Days for Girls (DfG), PSI Europe, The Policy Project, The Pad Project, Share the Dignity and the Toilet Board Coalition launched the Period Positive Workplace (PPW) initiative. The PPW aims to advance gender and menstrual equity worldwide by encouraging businesses to adopt period-friendly practices and become a certified Period Positive Workplace.

To receive certification, a business must:

  1. Provide period products in bathrooms,
  2. Meet WASH facility standards,
  3. And inform employees via a formal notice (e.g., sending an email, announcing it at a staff meeting, updating your employee benefits or HR handbook, etc.) that period products are and will continue to be provided.

Within the last seven months, the PPW initiative has achieved remarkable success as it has received incredible support across the public and private sectors. Yet, the most extraordinary aspect of the initiative is the individual organizations that proudly hold PPW certification and continue to propel the PPW movement forward.

Each and every PPW has a uniquely inspiring story to tell about their organization, culture and commitment to supporting menstrual health – which is why the PPW initiative is thrilled to launch the Period Positive Workplace Testimonial Series

The Testimonial Series will feature a collection of profiles on individual PPWs about their journey toward certification, what being a PPW means to them, and how being a PPW has impacted their organization.

In the first testimonial, we are thrilled to feature OVO, an energy supply company based in the United Kingdom. OVO began incorporating menstrual-friendly practices and resources into their company before even hearing about the PPW initiative. Once they did learn about it, they quickly decided to apply for certification.

OVO supplies numerous personal and sanitary products in workplace bathrooms in addition to period products, offers a variety of work options for people who are unwell due to their period, and strives to maintain a work environment that is open and honest about menstruation. Since becoming a PPW and implementing these practices, OVO has received overwhelmingly positive feedback. They now encourage more businesses to apply for PPW certification.

These are just a few of the highlights from our testimonial on OVO, a company that is going above and beyond to normalize menstruation in the workplace. To read the full testimonial, click here.

If your organization is interested in becoming a Period Positive Workplace, we encourage you to review requirements for certification and apply today!
