International Women’s Day 2024

Tomorrow, March 8,  is International Women’s Day (IWD)!

For 2024, the UN theme, Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress, reminds us of the importance of investing in women to advance gender equality. IWD is the perfect opportunity to spotlight the need to increase the representation of women, a crucial element for advancing menstrual health (MH)!

There are so many ways to participate in IWD 2024. Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Engage Your Community
In honor of IWD, host a community discussion, event, or forum about the IWD theme, Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. Invite community leaders and members to learn about the connection between MH and gender equality, discuss the importance of working toward sustainable menstrual products, and help others understand the advantages of investing in MH.

Get Businesses Involved
As a tribute to the Invest in Women IWD theme, organize a community event inviting women-led businesses to spotlight the work they do. Discuss why it is important to invest in women-owned businesses, emphasizing it is a critical step toward building equitable societies. You can also invite businesses and community leaders to help launch the Period Positive Workplace initiative in their business or your community!

Spotlight Women
Write an IWD-inspired article or blog, or pitch a story to a reporter about a woman, a women-led initiative, or a woman-owned business that is moving the needle on gender and menstrual equality. Discuss how they are addressing barriers that women and girls face, and why their work is important. They could be in your community, country, or worldwide!

Post on Social Media
Social media engagement is a fantastic way to join the greater conversation on gender equality, lend your voice in support of menstrual equality, and rally support for our work at DfG. You can share your support for DfG and show how you are celebrating IWD by resharing our posts on March 8th or creating your own! Here are a few examples of what you could say:

  • Sample Twitter post: March 8th is #IWD2024! Thank you to leaders like “@name of a legislator or @MH champion,” who use their voice to advocate for a world where all women are counted, recognized, and invested in, so no one is left behind. #MenstrualEquality is key to building a better future. #IWD2024 #InternationalWomen‘sDay #DaysForGirls #MenstrualHealth #InvestInWomen
  • Sample Facebook/Instagram post: March 8th is International Women‘s Day! Shout out to “@name of person/organization” for advocating for the need to invest in women and promote gender equality. Gender and menstrual equality are key to building a better future, and I’m proud to be a part of it. #IWD2024 #InternationalWomen‘sDay #DaysForGirls #MenstruationMatters #MenstrualHealth #InvestInWomen

Engage with Leadership
Meet an elected official or community leader working on advocating for gender equality to discuss how important washables are for achieving an equitable society. Ask them to make a public statement about the importance of sustainability and MH, and how it relates to investing in women.

Keep in Mind: There are endless ways to participate in IWD and underscore the need to invest in women and girls – don’t be afraid to think outside the box! We can’t wait to see all the creative ways you advocate for women and girls this IWD 2024.
