Tote Room fabric guidelines

Our goal is that each DfG Kit represents Dignity in a Drawstring Bag. The fabric used to make our Kits should convey a message of positivity, fun and personal worth. The types of fabrics we use to make components have been carefully chosen for their performance and durability capabilities; they are specific in structure and fiber content. Fabric prints and patterns are chosen with sensitivity to cultural concerns and ensure that the images are acceptable to the recipient and her community.

DfG Fabric Guidelines

Approved Fabric Types

Carry Pouch

• Polyurethane Laminate (PUL) • 1 or 2 mil thickness • Stain-hiding prints • Light colors can be covered with a stain-hiding woven layer

Drawstring Bag

• Medium – weight woven fabric • 100% cotton or a cotton/polyester blend • Fun, bright and colorful prints

Fabric Print Categories

We think of fabrics as belonging to one of four categories to give us a framework for classifying fabric colors, prints and patterns and guide usage in Days for Girls Kits

Gold standard – best

Busy, stain-hiding prints: florals, batiks and geometric patterns are culturally neutral and globally accepted.

Selective Usage Fabrics

Less stain-hiding prints, solids, and fabric with metallic ink can be included in DfG Kits if used for specific layers or components.

Area specific prints

We have found that certain prints can cause offense to certain populations and we take special care to avoid sending them when necessary

Not fit for purpose patterns

Some colors and patterns are avoided in all Days for Girls Use as they have been identified as problematic in enough areas that a general ban makes sense.
