Announcing the Nepal Menstrual Health Country Snapshot

Days for Girls is excited to announce that the Nepal Menstrual Health Country Snapshot is now available. It was officially released on November 20, 2025, at the Nepal Menstrual Health Product Standard and Stakeholder Engagement Conference in Kathmandu.
This marks the 10th snapshot in the series and the first completed for an Asian country.
The objective of these Menstrual Health (MH) Country Snapshots is to provide easy-to-use, research-based summaries that offer an overview of three key areas: (1) the MH context, capturing experiences related to access to products, washrooms, water, information, education, and social support; (2) the MH policy landscape, detailing policies, programs, taxes, standards, and related cross-sector initiatives in education and WASH; and (3) recommended resources, with links to research cited for further learning.
Several MH experts in Nepal contributed to this snapshot, ensuring that the information is accurate and reflects the current state of affairs.
Below are three key findings from Nepal’s MH Country Snapshot:
- 15% of Nepali girls (ages 10–24) had ever used a commercially manufactured menstrual pad, while 84% relied on cloth for their menstrual health management (WaterAid, 2018).
- 76% of girls did not know the cause or reason for the onset of menstruation (UNICEF, 2018).
- In 2025, Nepal’s Supreme Court ruled to remove all taxes on menstrual products, including the value-added tax.

These are just a few of the findings from the Nepal Snapshot. We hope this resource supports MH champions with the knowledge and tools they need to advocate for menstrual equity, not only in Nepal but around the world.
