DfG Fabric Guidelines
These four categories give us a framework for classifying fabric colors, prints and patterns and guide usage in Days for Girls Kits
Gold Standard – Best
Busy, stain-hiding prints: florals, batiks and geometric patterns are culturally neutral and globally accepted.
Selective Usage Fabrics
Less stain-hiding prints, solids and fabric with metallic ink can be included in DfG Kits if used for specific layers or components.
Area Specific Prints
We have learned that certain prints can cause offense to specific populations so we take special care to avoid them when this is the case.
Not fit for Purpose Patterns
Some colors and patterns are avoided in all Days for Girls use as they are commonly problematic so a general ban makes sense.
DfG kits are made from bright, colorful, busy fabrics that hide stains. This helps to prevent embarrassment when components are hung to dry in public areas. We are sensitive to cultural concerns and always choose patterns and prints that are acceptable to the recipient and her community. Carry Pouch Fabric
Carry Pouches are made from stain-hiding PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) in 1 or 2 mil thicknesses. White or light PUL can be covered with a stain-hiding woven layer.
Drawstring Bag Fabrics
Drawstring Bags can be sewn from any medium weight, stain-hiding, quality, durable, woven fabric, made from 100% cotton or a cotton/poly blend.
