Winfred Mukonzo

Kenya Country Manager

Winfred has over 5 years of professional experience in gender, health, humanitarian, and development work. She’s been involved in design and implementation of protection projects (GBV, SGBV, and FGM), advocacy programs, youth and women empowerment, civic leadership and governance, socio economic and political empowerment of women and girls, mental and menstrual health, HIV projects, sexual reproductive health rights and water sanitation and hygiene.

In her previous role as the Projects Lead and Director of EHI she oversaw the conceptualization and development of key documents including the strategic plan, monitoring and evaluation plan, resource mobilization strategy, curriculum development for various modules on women empowerment and end to end project implementation of high impact projects that transformed the lives of rural communities. She also volunteers on several advisory boards that work on women and youth empowerment projects and occasionally consults on Gender and development issues.

Winfred has been honored as a champion of change and an exemplary leader by African Youth Leadership Forum receiving the AYLF 2017 award. In 2017, she was featured  among the top 10 Bold for Change Champions in Africa by Young African Women in Leadership. She is a recipient of the prestigious Zuri Innovation Award, and was also awarded the Sustainability Innovation Award by My Little Big Thing- Africa’s biggest sustainability innovation challenge award. In 2019, she emerged among the top in the Global Social Thinkers Contest run by Ashoka Africa and British Council. And finally, in 2021, she was featured by the Kenyan government as one of the top 80 equality champions in Kenya.

Born in Kenya, she holds a Bachelors of Science in Public Health with Information Technology from Maseno University, a Certificate in Sustainability Leadership from the University of Cambridge, and a Masters in Public Health, from AMREF International University.
